2020 WIPTW #1 - The Terrain

The final part of the first WIPTW for the year. who would have though the biggest hassle of being on holiday was painting so much it takes forever to document.

Terrain:

So i had half finished these before Christmas but i finished up the ink washing and streaking, blood splats, some of the Windows, and all the flock etc.

Flock - to make it look like moss i used a green flock and a brown to cover the houses. this worked well and as they are game pieces i needed to make it stronger so i put a 2nd lawyer of glue. this ended up shiny (PVA seems to react weirdly to the Isopropol alcohol we use to make it flow), so i did it again with Matt modpodge and that seemed to work.

Windows - on two of the buildings i added windows in the form of clear plasticard. this was fun, but the worst part was making all the inside frames in card. TTcombat gives you outside windows but i had to make my own inside (and i really missed my laser cutter). i used ink, and blood etc to dirty them, up and broke them all. i also used some of the bits to put on teh ground so there was broken glass.

Doors - all teh doors are magnetised so they can open etc.

Painting - was pretty basic, i prime a base colour, then i stipple a highlight, and for weathering i use a lot of burnt umber and a lighter brown to stipple over it. for the green its just two different greens stippled. Its messy but i find the stippling faster and it looks good enough for playing. i used some inks for the streaks and a nice artist acrylic magenta for the blood. its a solid paint so it looks lumpy, so much fun.

Assembly - the lugs for the roof dont always fit so i usually cut them off and will look at magnets in the future. I magnetised the doors, and i reinforced the car port roof on SHB. i had to cut a lot out of the Grey harbour building roof so it would fit on to the house and not rip away the paint and flock. And to cover any holes and build lines i used a lot of carboard for this. things like a roof covering on the top, covering all the corners etc. 1mm card works wonders.

Suburban House B - TT Combat

Suburban House E - TT Combat

Grey Harbor House B - TT Combat

Yellow Cab - Kore Aeronautics (this was mangled in the casting so i used it for terrain).

I got this car in the Kore Aeronautic KickStarter, but it was messed up, warped on one side etc (see review here ) . Now the are replacing it, but i had this one so decided to make terrain out of it. dirtied it up severely and i think it came out well.
