Resurrection- New year, New painting plan.

Ok so its been ages since i posted, i had high hopes for posting each week but life got crazy busy last year.

So what happened last year?

  1. Pandemic - no direct negative impact but it started to spike workload and caused more work requirements

  2. Work load - Worked crazy hours for most of the year, and the last quarter decided to combine even busier with a staff member leaving, so i worked most of the time.

  3. Moved house - Our house was finished (well enough to move in) so there was packing and moving and resettling in etc.

  4. Family death - i spent most of a month end of the year in another town looking after a dieing family member, and then when he passed, i am now the executor, so thats still going on.

Where we are at now, we are in the new house, starting to settle in and i am working out how i want my workshop to look.

Ive managed to get into a routine of painting and while i got nothing done in January (till the end), i am getting through quite a few at the moment. I am breaking this down into:

  1. Basic Job - wandering monsters, NPCs, basic characters, simple sculpts or not great materials (like CMON plastics) etc - i am using GW Contrast and Scale75 Instant colours plus highlights so i can knock them out quickly - key here is to get a good paintjob for the table that is not terrible.

  2. Good Job - Models like 1 off characters, great sculpts, or don’t work with contrast - get a good solid paint job , but trying to get faster.

So far this is working. I am also getting faster at painting, as i have bigger brushes and working out techniques.

I will resurrect the tracker and use that for the year. I also have made a plan for gettign through models. Rather than just randomly painting something, or trying to slog through armies, i am working out a plan for this.

I have 20 GW painting handles (1 large)  and i am grabbing out 20 models to paint, and then when they are done the next 20 are done. So that i can get through collections, if there is a group, I will do them together. This way i get variety and each suppliers models get more painted each time.

I generally do basing in a batch, so i have a different desk with my basing stuff, and blitz them all in one go. i like to focus on one area at a time.

Strategy:

  • Finished 20 models before getting the next out

  • Pick models from as many producers as possible

  • But group sets together where sensible (ie all 5 of a model from a sculpt from Blacklist)

  • Pick a half painted model from previous projects
